lucy naland design

I’m Lucy. I'm currently a designer at The Washington Post, where I work on the Washington Post Select app. I previously spent the last four years studying graphic design at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, and have been defrosting since I graduated in May.

Last summer I was a design intern at Sports Illustrated, where I worked on print and digital projects. Graphic Design USA named me a 2019 Student to Watch earlier this year.

In the summer of 2017 I was the editorial design intern at The Boston Globe, where I designed and art directed for the newspaper and magazine. I also worked for The Daily Orange, Syracuse's independent student newspaper, for the first three years of college. I spent one of those years as Presentation Director, where I managed the paper's design, photo and illustration staffs.

My editorial experience at SU also included designing for both Baked Magazine and The Kumquat. While my experience began with print, though, I've since developed interests in digital and motion design.

When I’m not working, you can usually find me eating croissants, listening to the newest Vampire Weekend album and spending all my money on travel. If you'd like to chat about design, my work experience or why The Twilight Saga is the greatest film series of all time, contact me at
